27.Advanced Studies of Climate Change Projection
In recent times, the globe has witnessed a surge in catastrophic weather phenomena, a trend expected to intensify as the climate continues to shift. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in its August 2021 Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), provided definitive evidence that anthropogenic activities are the primary driver of global warming. This latest assessment offers a much firmer stance than previous versions, underscoring the vital necessity for a unified global response. Consequently, the scientific community should remain deeply engaged in international initiatives—including the forthcoming Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—to further the boundaries of climate-related science and technology. To this end, the international scientific community is placing greater stress on studies of, among others, high-resolution modeling including impact assessments, extreme events and tipping points. This special issue will also focus on these areas.
As nations worldwide implement new legal frameworks and strategic plans to combat climate change, the demand for robust scientific evidence to guide policy has never been greater. Research must now evolve to provide actionable insights that directly address societal requirements. This special issue of SPEPS seeks original research and comprehensive reviews on global change, viewed through both specialized and multi-disciplinary lenses. We warmly welcome submissions from all corners of the globe, with the aspiration that this special issue will make a meaningful contribution to the global community. The scope covers a broad spectrum, such as the refinement of Earth system models, regional and global climate projections, impact studies, and collaborative research bridging the gap between natural and social sciences.
